What Other Mummies Do – Part 2

Feithi, mother of 1 daughter (Elle, aged 2)

“ Hi Jazz,  finally ur blog coming :)

Though I didnt bring Elle out often, I’d like to contribute what we’ve been experienced.  The best place that Elle has visited is the Zoo and Botanical Garden

The zoo is a place where animals come to live! Elle can finally see all her favourite animals that she had learnt through TV programmes, soft toys and storybooks.  As  for Botanical Garden, besides introducing nature to Elle, it’s also good for her health too.

For me, going to those places would make me experiencing nature as well. Everyday we hooked up in office & busy roads with hectic schedules.  Getting close to nature enable us to de-stress, relax our body, soul and eyes. Besides, it’s good for a nature walk, too. No need to spend so much on shopping, if you go to malls as usual :)

Best time to visit in the morning or early evening when sun is not so hot, and the place is not so crowded.

Think it’s about bonding with ur family, with ur kids, specially. After a week we’re quite ‘away’ from them, during the weekend we can spend a real quality time with them. As parents, when ur child is happy, so are we.”

” Hi Jas,

I think this is really good with what you are doing. i believe your blog would facilitate and benefit a lot of parents are are just too busy to research or find a place that is family friendly and safe.

We had been to some places and so far, it has been a bliss for Sarah and ourselves.

1. The Singapore Zoo – the ideal outdoor classroom
We had fun learning about the animals and the plants. Participating in activities like riding on a pony, getting to play in the water theme park, get to feed the rabbits and among others. We packed our snack and food and we enjoyed it together at the zoo. We even get to teach her to do the right thing, eg, throw rubbish in rubbish bins and not leave them behind. clean our table before we leave and so on.

Best time to go would be morning weekend, although crowded, but it is still better than walking under the hot scorching sun.
Because Sarah has learned about animals in books and TV program, a trip to the Zoo was an actual eye opener for her to meet the animals for the first time, She can point at the animal and tells us immediately that she knows it was a giraffe or a goat and so forth.

2. The Playground near our block
We enjoy it very much there in the evening when there are other kids playing there at the same time. We encourage her to climb and slide, run around and help her reach places that she is not able to. We also teach her the proper technique of climbing or how to come down from a higher steps. This is a perfect place for her to learn to socialise with other children and learng the importance of sharing and taking turns. There was once when she hog on one of the slide and other kids were queuing up to come down the slide, we point out the part on taking turns and she much obliged. You will be amazed what your child can do when you let them be themselves and learn independent.

Sometime we bring our automatic bubble gun and we will blow some bubbles for her to run after. Other kids will come and play and she learn that sharing with other is great fun too. This is great outdoor intereactive acitivities for both me and my child plus we get to know her better as this little person eg, how did she handle it when she faces an obstacles. and it is free!”

“My day with hubby and kids begins very early at 8am. We would cycle to Pasir Ris Park for a refreshing breakfast by the beach.  After breakfast, the kids would either play at the park or sand on the beach. They would not wonder into the waters as they do not like the sticky feeling after swimming, and its a good thing because its not safe to swim there ;-) . While the kids are out on the sand,  my hubby and myself would then have our peace and quality time together.

My family love such outings, and especially me simply because it doesn’t cost much and it’s very refreshing for the whole family”
